Never underestimate the value of your website. It’s the first point of contact that customers have with your business. It’s where first impressions are made and reflects the brand values at the core of your company. It’s where customers go to find out information. It’s a communication tool for interacting with customers. Most of all it’s a 24 hour, 365 days a year sales person driving your business forward.

Here are a few tips.
  • Your website is there for the benefit of your customers. Get that right and it will become a benefit for the business.

  • Cut everything that is not relevant to your customer’s needs.

  • Ensure it’s always up to date.

  • Make the web pages more compelling regarding the sales message and make sales the primary function of the website.

  • Develop the website to make it easier for people to buy.

  • Make the buying process as easy as possible for customers buy by removing all unnecessary steps.

  • Simplify the content so that there is only one dominant message per page. For example, sales, about us, testimonials etc.

  • Create other online content (blogs etc.) on the website to give customers a reason to visit the website even if they are not buying.

  • Set up strategies to encourage visitors to the site to leave email addresses that can be followed up with email newsletters.

  • Sign up to all Google web based features to help organic search.

  • Continually test the website and have it reviewed by a cross-section of potential users for ease of use, suitability of information etc. and the refine it in accordance with that feedback.

  • Research relevant keywords for paid-for campaigns and set up a Google adwords account.

  • Don’t expect customers to just find your website, you have to pay to promote it.

  • Set up a TrustPilot account or equivalent for recommendations and testimonials.

  • Develop and publish a privacy policy and ensure that the website and all interactions with the public conform with the General Data Protection Regulations.

  • Use Google Analytics to track the customer journey and ensure your pages are relevant.
